I think it was in a recent-ish Seanan McGuire book, although I can't recall which, that I first read about how the brain kindly keeps us from (mostly) being aware of our internal organs being in motion. Now I can't unsee it. (Well, whatever the equivalent of "unsee" is when it's the absence of awareness. ^^;)
